Well Mechanical System Inspection
A private well system typically includes a pump, storage tank, and electrical system.
Ground water tapped by private water wells is often of the highest quality. Owning a
private household-supply water well allows homeowners to control their own water
supply. Ownership also comes with the responsibility of keeping the water well in
good working order. A properly constructed and maintained household-supply well
will provide you with many years of quality service. Water should be tested regularly,
to ensure that the well is maintained in good working order and the quality of the
water being produced continues to meet health standards. The National Ground
Water Association recommends routine annual maintenance checks to ensure the
proper operation of the well and prolong its years of service, as well as monitor the
water quality to ensure safety.
Your well mechanical system inspection will include:
•
A flow test in gallons per minute (gpm) to determine system output and a pressure check (psi) of the
water system. I want to make sure there is enough water flow and pressure in the system after a
prolonged test.
•
An inspection of well equipment for water tightness and overall condition. Is the pressure tank water
logged? Is it rusty? Is the electrical system and pump switch safe and adequate? Is the distance between
the well and septic system adequate?, etc.
•
Also if requested: A test of your water for coliform bacteria, nitrates and nitrites.
